Trump Invites Relatives of Injured Military Members to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on the program that she aimed to speak to the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
