Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following starting derogatory taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the second-tier strugglers until January. His seven-year time with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Previous History Involving Bamford and the Manager

The pair had history before Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Career Struggles

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
