Catastrophe Hits as Inadvertent Detonation at Law Enforcement Facility in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Results in Nine Deaths
A tragic detonation at a law enforcement facility in Indian-administered Kashmir has resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to thirty-two additional people, according to authority reports.
The occurrence occurred when a stockpile of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during handling procedures.
Timeline of Incidents
The blast happened on Friday evening at the Nowgam security post, where blast substances confiscated in the Faridabad area in the northern territory of Haryana were being kept briefly.
Local law enforcement head announced that the explosives were awaiting forensic examination when a "extremely tragic" mishap during management caused their blast at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Authority Declarations
Security forces confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and as opposed to a terror incident. "Different conjectures regarding the origin of this occurrence is unnecessary," stressed the security director during a press briefing.
The security post suffered severe damage from the blast, with neighboring structures also being impacted by the powerful blast.
Consequences and Victims
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and transformed into ashen remains, with debris scattered across the site," according to official reports.
"The power of the blast was so extreme that some body parts were retrieved from adjacent homes, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the police station," reported an official source.
Most of the casualties were police officers, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a garment worker who was accompanying the group.
Government Response
The region's Regional Leader expressed sympathies and confirmed that an inquiry had been commissioned into the tragic incident.
"I have commissioned a probe to establish the reason of the inadvertent detonation. Profoundly distressed by the death of valuable individuals due to profoundly sorrowful accidental blast at Nowgam police station in Srinagar city. My commiserations to the mourning loved ones. I wish for quick healing of the harmed," expressed the leader on online channels.
