Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
